I worked with an architecture/design studio called Ball-Nogues in Los Angeles on a team of 10 fabricators to construct this 16-piece installation inside of the San Diego Airport’s parking garage. The work is constructed by adhering hundreds of tiny fiberglass rods together into “ropes”, which then got wrapped in fiberglass fabric and epoxy and inserted into a massive CNCed jig that shaped them into their intended forms. This process was replicated until we reached the quantity of parts needed, and then all elements were sprayed with the desired finish. This was a new building technique we were experimenting with, designed to achieve flexibility and strength simultaneously.
